It's been just about 15 years now since I changed careers, and if you had told me then what I'd be doing today, I would have been very surprised. I'm not sure how it would have affected my decision. If all I'd had to go on back then was a glimpse of this one day, it would certainly have made the decision harder. I spent it using a Microsoft profiling tool that hasn't changed noticeably in at least ten years -- maybe fifteen. It is every bit as cryptic and difficult to use today as it was the first time I used it, which must have been 1987 or so. It has always done the job, however. And the truth is that I've very much enjoyed writing software all this time, even on the worst days.
