Marsha and I saw Traffic today. I liked it very much. Of course the part that affected me most was the story of the high-school girl -- straight-A-student, daughter of a lawyer and the country's top DEA official -- who falls into a terrifying life of drug addiction. Her father (Michael Douglas, the DEA director) has lost touch with her so completely before she goes under that he has no idea she might be using drugs. He finally regains contact with her, at great cost all around, but you don't come away with the sense that this kind of damage can be repaired, even by making the kinds of sacrifices he made. You come away wondering only about what a parent really might do to prevent this kind of thing from happening.
